Jimmy Carter, 91, Says Cancer in His Brain Is Gone: "A Lot of People Prayed for Me and I Apprec

Former President Jimmy Carter says a recent MRI scan showed his brain cancer is gone.

The 91-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate revealed the news on Sunday. Carter had revealed in August he had been diagnosed with brain cancer, following an announcement he had undergone liver surgery and had cancer, which had spread.

"My most recent MRI brain scan did not reveal any signs of the original cancer spots nor any new ones," he said in a statement posted on The Carter Center's Facebookpage on Sunday. "I will continue to receive regular 3-week immunotherapy treatments of pembrolizumab."

He also shared the happy news with attendees of a Sunday school class he often teaches at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia, NBC News reported.

"When I went (for an MRI) this week they didn't find any cancer at all," he said, as seen in a video posted by the outlet, drawing gasps and applause. "So I have good news. So a lot of people prayed for me, and I appreciate that."
