English rapper M.I.A has been spotted recording at the Geejam Studios in Port Antonia, Portland.
ENGLISH rapper M.I.A has been in Jamaica since last week working on tracks for her upcoming album, Matahdatah.
A Jamaica Observer source said she is recording at Geejam Studios in Portland.
M.I.A, whose real name is Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam, is best known for the hit songs Paper Planes, Boys (the video was shot in Port Royal) and Swagger Like Us.
The 40-year-old, whose parents are Sri Lankan, began her career in 2000 as a visual artist, film-maker and designer in West London before moving into music two years later.
Her early hits include Sunshowers and Galang, both of which charted in the United Kingdom and Canada.M.I.A. released her début album Arular in 2005. Her second, Kala, came in 2007 and was certified silver in the United Kingdom, and gold in Canada and the United States.
Her third album, Maya, was released in 2010. It became her highest-charting album in the UK and US, reaching number nine on the Billboard 200.
The single Paper Planes received a Grammy nomination for Record of The Year and peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
Paper Planes was sampled in Swagger Like Us, credited to TI, featuring M.I.A, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Jay-Z. It earned two Grammy nominations.
