Adele accused of plagiarism, labeled a thief by critics in Turkey
British singer Adele’s third album “25” has sold over 4 millions of copies already, smashing records along the way and creating history.
Around 800,000 copies of “25” were bought in its first week of release, the highest figure for a UK chart week.
And the world can’t stop playing “Hello” with over 638,869,111 views on YouTube.
So it would be safe to say almost everyone loves Adele, right?
Well that’s not so much the case right now in Turkey, as some critics think her track “Million Years Ago” is a bit too similar to an 80’s song by an artiste called Ahmet Kaya.
The Turkish singer recorded Acilara Tutunmak (or Clinging to Pain) in 1985.
But social media users have accused Adele of stealing his music.
A number on Turkish Twitter users have voiced their concern, with one user posting a picture of a Turkish flag and labeling Adele “a thief.”
The tweet reads “Adele has stolen a song from us”.
Kaya’s wife Gulten Kaya has also weighed in telling a local newspaper it’s unlikely the 27-year-old would do such a thing.
“However, if she consciously did it, then it would be theft,” she said.
You be the judge, go listen Adele’s “Million years ago” then take a listen to “Acilara Tutunmak”
Adele has added a further eight dates to the UK leg of her 2016 world tour due to phenomenal demand.
The new shows include four extra dates at London’s O2 Arena, and a further two each in Manchester and Birmingham.
