Drake’s “Back to Back” is the First Diss Song Ever Nominated for a Grammy
Closing the best year of his career, the ‘6God’ is set to make another record with “Back to Back” after landing the very first diss song to be nominated for a Grammy.
The summer beef between Drake and Philly Rapper Meek Mill has seemingly subsided (For Now), but “Back to Back” has proved to be the gift that keeps on giving for the Toronto Rapper.
The 58th Annual Grammy Awards announced their nominations recently with Drake scoring five nominations.
However what’s interesting was Drake’s nod for Best Rap Performance for “Back to Back” which marked the first time The Recording Academy has recognized a “diss” record for a major award.
Drizzy will go up against J. Cole, Fetty Wap, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj and Kanye West, it remains to be seen if Drake’s potential victory will come at an even greater cost to Meek Mill’s career.
While songs like Tupac’s “Hit Em Up,” Nas’ “Ether,” and Jay Z’s “Takeover” may stick greater in the minds of rap fans, Drake has the potential to make history when the awards air February 15.
