Facebook profiles of Jamaican celebrities hacked
Since last week and over the weekend, several Jamaican musicians and celebrities have come under cyber-attacks on their respective social media outlets.
Dancer, model and former talk-show host Yendi Phillipps, as well as Reggae stars Tessanne Chin, Busy Signal, Protoje, Chronixx and others have seen their Facebook profiles and their collective millions of followers flooded with sexually-suggestive, pornographic and other explicit links and posts.
Most observers and fans of the celebrities have stood in defence of the Jamaican entertainers as statements acknowledging the breach of their profiles have since made their way onto social media.
One statement from songbird Tessanne Chin reads: “We have been experiencing some Hacking issues with this page and until Facebook fixes this, please bear with us. You know I don't post anything suggestive and I am so sorry if anyone is offended by the Hackers posts. As Shaggy would say, "It wasn't me!"Hopefully they will fix it soon.”
Yendi Phillipps issued her apology over the weekend, while her Facebook page has been deactivated until the breach has been addressed.
Reggae entertainer Protoje as well as Dancehall deejay Busy Signal have reportedly had the hacking issue fixed and the pages are running smoothly once again.
The breaches follow a similar hacking of Jamaican singer Etana’s Facebook page in early June.
Many of her over 500,000 followers and fans were exposed to pornographic and sexually-suggestive content for over a week.
